Frosty Lighthouse

Here is another image I took a couple of weeks ago out at Grand Haven Pier. It follows the  Lake MIchigan On Ice post a couple days ago. We only walked about a third of the way out on the pier as the is on the pier was jagged and very slippery.

Two items about this image. First is the concept of look behind you for "the shot" and the other is think portrait when doing landscape. We were walking back to the truck when I turned around and saw this magnificent view of the stanchions and the two lighthouses. I had the 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens mounted so I knew I could narrow my DOF and throw off some of the image, but my first reaction was to pull the camera up to my eye and take a shot. As I was doing so, the vertical nature of the lighthouses just screamed portrait, so that's what I did. Hey... To me it looks good.

Cya tomorrow... Doug
