New Moon

Ok... So it's not really a new moon. But the moon is so interesting to photograph that it seams whenever you get a new or better lens it is one of the must shoot objects. So this one is no different.

The other truism is each picture has a story and again this one is no different. We had traveled into Illinois to see family as we will not be doing Thanksgiving this year with that end of the fam. Of course I had brought my gear, tri-pod and all as I had no idea what or where we would be doing. As it turned out the was not much in the photography area but I did do some with the computer and Photoshop (see Pre-Blog Post #3).

So we were in the driveway at my sister-in-laws getting ready to take off as it was late and we would not be getting back home until 1:30 am. My brother-in-law and I looked up as saw this beautiful moon staring down at us and we both said that would make a great photo. Ok so I have some shots of the moon but alas, I have a new piece of gear in my bag. I already had take a shot with the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS lens but the new gear was a 1.4 tele-extender. That shoves it out to 280 MM and ad the 1.6 crop factor from the APS-C sensor and that turns that lens into a 448 mm reach out there and touch you lens. Using the logic of "no time like the present" I started assembling to set-up. Seeing this my wife and sister-in-law headed back into the house for a few minutes. Bill and I stood by for the shot results. We were not disappointed as you can see from this image. The specifics are 280 mm (448 at 1.6) at 1/500 @ f/6.3.

Cya tomorrow... Doug
