No Image Monday... Just a thought of mine.
I think everyone is prone to categorizing, pigeon holing, or otherwise labeling people of different socioeconomic classes, races, or other delineation's of humanity.
I promise not to make this a rant but some simple observations.
Last week I was reading some material on an airline flight and found the subject matter rather interesting. The topic was about Generation Y. As I read the article I found the authors to be very condescending towards an age group of people that are way more advanced than any segment of population has ever been at their given age. Call this group the Net Generation, Millennials, Echo Boomers, iGeneration, or Gen Y, they are a very unique personality group and literally the leaders of a new millennium.
I respectfully say “they” as I do not want to be guilty of naming such an articulate, bold, unabashed, and open segment of society. Yes they are a generation and maybe I can take the Star Trek line and go so far as to say Baby Boomer-Next Generation.
Here are some of the reasons I believe this “next generation” is so special;
- Devoted to their circle of friends
- Not shy about objecting
- Non-conformist in a non-traditional sense
- Living for the moment is a way of life
- No fear
- Free spirited
- Witty
- Very specific interests
- General cynicism
The authors of the article in many ways were speaking of these people like someone is talking to someone else about you like you are not in the room. Not very cool!
As these people mature, parental or adult dictatorship is blown off at an earlier age than most boomers cold imaging. Parenting has become just part of life quest advisory board.
So what am I saying here without ranting. I think this “next” generation has learned and continues to learn valuable life lessons from their parents failures, the governments inabilities to govern and holds a healthy contempt for the establishment.
The world will be a very different place twenty years from now.
Have a great week… Doug
