With all due respect, I f you can not guess where we have taken off too this week, you should check out some history books on our fiftieth state. Of course one can not mention Hawaii without giving some recognition to King Kamehameha shown below in a park in Hilo Hawaii.
Actually there were five all together over the years. But the monarchy is what established the civilized grouping of the Hawaiian Islands. While we were on the Hilo side of the island we trekked up to Rainbow Falls (pictured below). We left the Wiakaloa Hilton complex on the West side of the island around 5:00 am to get to the east side for a sunrise. Unbeknownst to us a cold front (go figure we from Michigan go to Hawaii and they have a cold front) was in the area and it was pretty much rainy all day on the east side. The thing is that the type of rain we had was on, off, and on again. You could get about a twenty minute window between showers and that would be just enough time.
A local elderly lady was talking to us about the Rainbow Falls and how she had only seen it flowing at this level a couple of times in her life. We snagged a bunch of shots before we got rained on again and proceeded with our day. I found the EF 24-105 f/4 IS USM lens was a perfect combination with the EOS 40D fir this type of shot. Any wider and the EF 16-35 f/2.8 L USM cam out to play.
So what s Hawaii without a spectacular sunset. Well! It took the second day but it did not disappoint, is thin not one of the most spectacular sunsets you have seen. No credit to me, this was all God, I just spun the knobs and pressed the shutter.
Hey that is going to do it for today. We were able to Skype with our daughter today from the room but internet is not cheap in the resort so Unless I get to Starbucks tomorrow, there may not be a post on Wednesday. We will see!
Take care... Doug
