Early Morning in MKE

Yes folks, there is a another world running (or flying) around this rock while we are so cumfy in our beds counting sheep. Sure, everybody knows the FedEx and UPS guys are shooting across the country towards Memphis TN or Louisville KY for there sorting madness just to fire back out to where they started from.

What might not be so widely known is the existence of thousands of single pilots (read: by them selves in an airplane) running around between 4,000 and 17,000 feet every night moving who knows what on a much smaller scale than the "big guys". These individuals accomplish this task in old, beat-up aircraft with marginal navigational equipment and de-icing gear that works if they are lucky. Not to mention the pay the get for this approaches what they could earn flipping burgers at the local BK Lounge.

These yeomen of aviation are called "freight dogs". A term most would proudly respond to as they know that not everyone can do what they are doing. To these individuals I captured the above image this morning in Milwaukee WI. It was roughly 5 degrees F and the case of the G9 was cooling very fast. I hand held it against a fuel truck at 1/13nd of a second at f/2.8 at 200 ISO.

Enjoy,
Doug
