Tech I've Got Nothing Thursday

Ok, this is not a photo blog tonight but I can make it slightly techy. I am at work waiting to get released to the hotel and I already know I will be at the Hyatt Columbus that I really detest staying at (read "Sorry Folks... No Image Tonight"). Sooo... In a preemtive post I am doing this before I head to the hotel and do not have a good picture to post so I thought I would go aviation tech.

The above image is a screen capture of a training slide we use to bring new pilots up to speed before they go out and fly the aircraft for the first time. This particular graph considers altitude, temperature, weight, and gradient of climb so the crew may determine if they will clear an obsticle in the event of an engine failure on takeoff. It refelects the weakest performance point in any jet aircraft which is called 2nd segment climb. Each manuafacturer uses different techniques in presenting pilots the information they need to meet certification as well as obsticle clearance.

Enough of the aviatoin tech. How did I do the chart. This particular chart came from a pdf versioin of the aircraft flight manual and is screen captured. It is then brought into MS Powerpoint and a obaque green layer is placed on top of the chart. In this aircraft green charts represent takeoff performance using 15 degrees of flap. The lines are drawn in and then for the ppt, animation is added to the lines. As far as the still is concerned, the page is enlarged to it's maximum display capability and then screen captured, dropped into paint (work does not have PS installed on any computeres that I know of) and then cropped and saved as a jpg file.
That sums up this post. Hoefully I can get online tonight at the Hyatt and get something else off... But for now, this will have to do.
Cya... Doug
