Hey all, here is a follow-up on the Expoimaging ExpoDisc. Not a whole lot of chit-chat in the post but I have the process and some images that hopefully comes across as examples of the custom white balance function of the Canon 40D or any of the Canon DSLR. The Nikon shooters have a similar function on the units.
The first image below is a photo taken in the back yard of my brother-in-law as he was working with my other Bro-in-law with his just new Nikon D80. Both of these are on the 40D with an EF24-70 f/2.8L USM lens mounted. The image stats are 1/20th second f13 at 62mm with WB set at AUTO.

This image is when I put the Expodisc over the end of the lens, selected manual focus, pointed it skyward and clicked of a shot. Next I jumped into the Custom White balance menu and selected the image for the White Balance. Back onto the LCD I selected WB to custom and took the next shot.
Finally, this photo has the custom white balance working its magic. The only other change in the stats is that the shot was at 77mm. In this example, the outcome is not as dramatic as some but the shadow/highlights are a little more enhanced in the corrected image.
Well, that's about it for now. check back later if you like.
Doug
