Independence Day. The day in 1776 that a good number of men decided the fate of a nation. A declaration that makes the statement that commercial on TV says, "I'm madd as h*** and I'm not going to take it anymore." It would not be unto September 17, 1787, a full eleven years later that the constitution was signed.
In this time of MTV, Internet, Starbucks and McD's instant everything, we have long forgotten the time and suffering it took to get this country up and running. The men, their families and friends all put their love of country before themselves. Would we do this today. Do the politicians today have the stones do what those men did. I would really like to say we do but it does not to appear to be that way in this day of appeasement and summit meetings.

The HBO series about John Adams, our First Vice-President and second President is an outstanding series. It is seven parts and is exquisitely produced. There are very few creative liberties in this series unlike many of the historical re-writes of our time.
If you can buy, borrow, or rent it, take a weekend or a couple of evenings this week and view this series. It will be time well spent to gain some small appreciation for what these people did on our behalf.
Take care all and enjoy a safe and fun fourth of July weekend... Doug
