This is not just any old Canon EOS 40D DSLR. This is MY Canon EOS 40D DSLR!
Here is the deal. I take the XTi with the 16-35 L glass mounted to Norman Camera here in Grand Rapids MI. The dude at the counter looks at the camera and says "Nice lens!" to which I respond by asking him if he was wondering why such nice glass was on an XTi. He did admit that had crossed his mind. So why did I have that kind of glass on an XTi? Simple... I have been waiting for the 5D MKII (or what ever the name will be) to come out so I could have the XTi as a second camera.
I have been struggling about getting a 40D for some time now as it is a way better camera than the XTi but I did not want to jump too soon. Wellll... The XTi was going to be shipped off to Canon to see about repairs (probably more than a new XTi body is worth) and I was camera-less. This was just a travesty.
While the 28-135 lens is not an L lens it is image stabilized and will be a good overall lens for the 1.6 crop of the 40D or the XTi when and if it comes back from the dead. shaking the 40D with the 28-125 lens mounted you can tell the lighter weight (by build) lens as you can feel parts shifting in the lens (eg. the lens tubes the optics ride in for zooming) as it is not an internal zoom design.
The camera... Well that is a different story. This baby is definitely up-armored. It is lager and actually fits my hand really well. It is loaded with buttons, screens, menus, and functions. I will definitely be taking some time to get to know this girl much better.
All is well in camera land now with a new and better body.
Take care all... Doug
