40D, 50D Should I?

So Canon among all the buzz about a the EOS 5D MkII or 7D which ever it is going to be make the announcement of a 50D. This would be the latest in the "Ten's"D line-up of EOS cameras.

Yes it has some really cool features like a DIGIC IV image processor which allows the same size sensor to cram a bunch more pixels onto it (15.1 megapixels) with out sacrificing pixel bleed over. In fact the latest high ISO goes to 12800. Nikon raised the bare with their new D3/D300 line-up on the ISO ware. Gee it used to be just a megapixel war. Here is the B&H link if you want to take a look at the rest of the specs.

So this begs to be asked. Does Doug upgrade to the 50D when he just got his 40D a couple of months ago. If you need the short answer, it is no!

I am sure the 50D is an absolutely outstanding camera in low light but what about the soon to be released 5D Mk II? With the 50D Canon has spilled the beans on a new processor with very high ISO capabilities. I must expect the 5D Mk II to be just a killer camera. Why would I want to spend $1399 on a camera body to do a little better than what I have. If I did not have any future plans in my life I might take a closer look. The 5D Mk II is rumored to be in the 3K range and Canon may snag me for that but I am not going to take baby steps to get there.

I certainly hope the DSLR market does not take the path of the point and shoot. very small but incremental increased in feature or just plain different features to move more cameras.

I'll stick with my 40D, thank you very much!

Cya... Doug
