Labor Day... It was started in 1882 by the Central Labor Union in celebration of the workers of America. You can read more about it on the dot-gov site here. So much for the history lesson.
My wife and I were having a discussion the other day about work and the "American Way". We as a people seem to have moved from an ideology of sweat of you brow mentality to a get what you can, while you can, and if you can get it without any work on your part all the better approach. Way too many people get way too much in this country of ours without making any effort to add to the process. There is always going to be a segment of society that is truly incapable of taking care of themselves and to those we as a populous need to take care of. The problem I see is two fold. First there are too many people taking advantage (to the point of abuse) of the generosity of the society. Secondly we as a people need to promote a process that does not encourage perpetual reliance on the giving (read governmental taxes of the workers) of others.
I am not an economist or a social architect and therefore will offer no solutions here but if you are freeloading on other peoples hard work... SHAME ON YOU!
I just hope it does not come to the point where we celebrate a Freeloader Day.
Take care and be happy at work tomorrow!
Doug
Enjoy what you do... Or find something you can!
