Joe McNally had made a good transition from grunt photog to expert world traveling photographer, instructor, and author. Joe's first book, "The Moment It Clicks" was very successful and just a joy to consume. Spectacular photographs with witty back stories about the shoot.
His second book "the Hot Shoe Diaries" takes a little different approach. Yes, McNally's wit, obsessive compulsive and sometime manic thoughts come across in a very enjoyable read. It is not but the first couple of pages before high lights up. Here is an except:
Alternatively, you could read the user's manual. Wouldn't that be a nonstop good time? Pulls in somewhere around "putting razor blades in your eyes" on the fun meter.
But wait! There's more! Not only do you get McNally's non-stop wit and occasional rant, he provides enough detail in the image discussion to really gain some knowledge on how to shoot in the conditions he is talking about.
I started reading the book about a week ago and am about halfway though it just reading in my moments of spare time. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys great photography.
Hey all, it's time to get to work.
