Anyone familiar with The Matrix movies series will recognize the above image. Ok not that exact one because I just got done doing it in PS.
STOP - STOP - STOP
I must first make a full disclosure statement here. I went shopping today and this may tend to be a little ranty, I hope it can be tongue and cheek.
Ok. So here we have in 1837 Charles Babbage came up with the concept of a programable computer (yes I know the integrated circuit was not conceived of until the early 1900's). It was not until the proliferation of the personal computer in the 1980's that the information age really took off.
So you say... "Doug, where are you going with this?" To that I reply with my rant!
We as a people have become so reliant on the digital marvel we call a computer that there are time it seams we are unable to function without it. The fact that I am typing (and you reading) this thought in cyberspace is a case in point. I most likely do not know you and we have probably never met but yet you are gaining an understanding of my thought. That is if you have not moved on in your surfing. So that is one example, here is another.
Take a look at the receipt below from Bath & Body Works.

We had purchased a number of items and on the way out of the store, my wife saw something that she could exchange. That word is not in the current lexicon of inventory control. The total transaction came to a big zero. It was a free return for a free purchase. Yes it was necessary to complete the transaction for inventory. This proves my point about our reliance on these blasted devices.
The ironic part about the exchange is the sales products are all going to be removed from the shelves on Sunday night to be returned. Hmmm, so much for inventory.
Have you ever forgotten your cell phone and gone the whole day incommunicado. First there is panic for not being in contact with the rest of the world. Only later in the day to realize how liberating it was to actually exist in life without being connected to that digital anchor.
Ok, the rant is over and I thank all of you who have allowed me to blast the very technology we enjoy.
Cya... Doug
