20th Anniversary or Photoshop

So you are wondering what is this image on my blog. It is the opening act for the 20th anniversary celebration for Photoshop. It was a live webcast from San Francisco tonight and it just ended about five minutes ago at 12:30 AM East Coast time. I know why does the blog stamp show 11:59? Because I had to stamp the time then for it to show up as a Thursday post and not Friday.
Here is Scott Kelby hosting the ceremonies which included tutorials from every version of Photoshop up to CS3. So I might be a little geeky on the Photoshop thing but it is pretty amazing that in 1987 a University of Michigan PhD student wanted a program that would display gray scale images on his Macintosh. This guy was Thomas Knoll and he aptly named the program Display. He and his brother John collaborated in 1988 to further develop the application which became ImagePro. Later that year the made a presentation to Adobe. That year Adobe bought the license for the program and in 2000 renamed and released the first version of Photoshop.

You can see the Knoll brothers on the credits but also one Russell Brown. He was the Art Director at Adobe when the Knoll brothers made the pitch. During the video Brown did a very funny and seemingly analog-ish presentation with an overhead projector. The whole thing is pretty entertaining if you have a chance to watch it. Give it a couple days and then Google it.

As late as it is I am off to sleepy time. Cya... Doug
