A couple of year ago we took a trip out to the Portland OR area, Mt Hood and such. We did not get a chance to make it up to Canon Beach and the famous Hay Stack Rock.
Back in February our oldest son called and asked if we wanted to go out west with him. This is not something that any parent should pass up. It has been seven years since we have been able to spent time with just him so we have been looking forward to it. In fact I am composing this post on a Southwest flight right now.
It may not be the best time of year to visit the Great Northwest but we are planning on having a great time anyhow, cool temps, rain or what have you. Personally I am visioning an early morning shot of Hay Stack with morning rain or mist not he water. Last week Mt Hood had a good bit of snow so that might be a little precarious depending on how the roads are and what kind of vehicle we end up with.
I have come prepared with my gear bag to capture those awesome shots we all look forward to. I was tempted to bring the 5D Mk II but backed out to my 40D at the last minute as I do not need the low light capabilities nor the ginormous files that beast creates. As far as lenses are concerned I brought the 16-35 f/2.8, 24-105 f/4 the 50 f/1.4 and the 70-200 f/2.8. I could not bring the 70-200 without packing to 1.4 teleconverter for it. That will give me an equivalent 448 mm on the 40D just in case I have an opportunity to get some wildlife (ok, so it's not a 600 mm lens but it will do). As far a legs, I had to unscrew the Really Right Stuff ball head to fit the Induro sticks. Of course there it all the other little stuff to go along with it. My backup plan is to download the cards to my MackBook Pro and then onto a 500 GB USB drive.
We will have to see how many shots I can feet up here this week.
Take care... Doug
