Product Thursday This Week

I want to pass along a couple of items that I find to be invaluable in my photography. The first is a little piece of software and the other is a storage device.

Imagewell is an image sizing utility that takes up next to no room and does a wonderful job at reducing jpg files for web usage. The people at XtraLean Software have done a really good job at keeping the software fat out of their product. It's price is just about as lean as its file size. At $19.95 US it is as practical not only in the binary world but also in the pocket book.
The next item I want to pass along regards battery storage. Ever since the Department of Transportation directed the federal Aviation Administration to restrict battery carriage onboard commercial aircraft, the photographic world has been in a tizzy with all the battery hungry devices we carry with us.

If you would like to see what the DOT and FAA have to say about this issue you may read an informative pdf from the FAA by clicking here and the Safe Travel notice from the DOT by clicking here. Personally I thing the FAA pdf is the better and more understandable guide.

The folks at Tools Aviation have come up with the neatest little gadget for storing your spare batteries. It is not only strong, but light and protects the battery contacts from exposure. These little cases come in a variety of sizes (battery) and capacities, they are available in six different colors including a glow in the dark (below) design.

These little units are great because the finally keep batteries from floating around your back and they also provide a place to store the drained batteries. I have a number of four packs and one twelve. When I have to replace batteries I put the used batteries with the positive contact pointing down.

Simple, Useful, and not too expensive. What a concept.

Enjoy all... Doug
